Station Wiring

The Harvard University Network (HUN), serves the entire Harvard community, including faculty, staff, and students in Cambridge, Allston, and the Longwood Campus. Harvard has five exchanges: 495 and 496 (Cambridge/Allston campus), 432 (Longwood Campus), 493 and 384 (students). It is possible to call any telephone in the University, regardless of exchange, by dialing only the five-digit extension.

There is a standard wiring plan for HUN. It consists of a duplex outlet (1 for voice, 1 for data), offering a modular connection. The station is fed with two 4-pair wires. All jacks will be labelled in accordance with a standard marking plan that provides a unique identifier for your station equipment and line. This label ensures precise and thorough documentation and aids in future work orders. Your telephone equipment should be plugged into the top Voice outlet. The bottom Data outlet is reserved for computer network options.
