Wire and Cable
Working within the UIS Telecommunications department, we are responsible for assisting the
Harvard community with their internal and external wiring needs for both copper and fiber
optic cable. Working with the Harvard community we have standardized on Systimax copper
wiring and Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) 568B wiring scheme for copper
installations. For Fiber Optic testing, Harvard has standardized on Power Meter Testing,
Bi-Directional Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), and Optical Return Loss (ORL).
Additional testing of Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) and Chromatic Dispersion (CD) as
requested. Negotiations with major wiring manufactures and distributors have resulted in
favorable pricing for Harvard.
