Corporate Harvard / Verizon Wireless Service and Information

University Information Systems (UIS) – Telecommunication Department provides wireless service to the Harvard community. Verizon Wireless is the preferred vendor. Verizon Wireless provides a discount to our corporate customers on plans and accessories. All wireless information on this website is directly related to Verizon Wireless.
Note: 33-digit billing requires placing wireless orders through UIS Telecommunications Customer Service. Orders must be submitted by your school/department authorized service contact. If you do not know who your authorized contact is for your school/department please contact Customer Service at 495-8590.

- If you would like to change your service plan and currently own a wireless phone, please call UIS Telecommunications Customer Service at 617-495-8590 to check if your equipment is compatible with your chosen service plan. Please have the manufacture's name and model number handy.

- Activating Service
- Verzion Wireless will ship the phone directly to your department. Expect to receive the phone(s) within five business days.
- Once you receive your device(s), you may have to activate service before you can place and receive calls. Instructions for activating service are included in the package from Verizon.
- After confirming that your cell phone and service are in working order, be sure to fill out and mail in the manufacture's warranty card and store the information in a safe place. If your device includes a rebate, fill out and mail in the rebate according to the manufacture's instructions with your proof-of-purchase documentation at this time.
- Change to Service
- Premium text/download services for Harvard Central Managed Accounts are no longer defaulted on accounts. If users have a business need for these fee services their manager must contact Telecom to have it added to their account.
- Deactivate Service
- Permanent Deactivation of Service (equipment and plan) Beyond 30 Days
This information applies if you have had your service beyond than 30 days.
If you want to deactivate your corporate wireless service, your authorized point-of-contact person should send an email to uis_wireless_phones@harvard.edu. The email should include the cell phone number and user name. The wireless equipment belongs to your department or school and may be re-used or recycled.
Note: You should verify your contract end date before deactivating service. You may be liable for an early termination fee. If you want to verify contract end date, send an email to uis_wireless_phones@harvard.edu. Your email should include user name and cell phone number.
- Permanent Deactivation of Service (equipment and plan) Less than 30 Days
This information applies if you have had your service less than 30 days.
It is 2-step process:
- Return the equipment to Verizon Wireless within 30 days in original packaging and accompanied by an original receipt. There is a return authorization slip via FEDEX included in your shipment. Please retain the tracking number for your records.
- To ensure that your department or school is not billed for the returned device, your authorized point-of-contact person must email UIS-Telecommunications at uis_wireless_phones@harvard.edu. The email should include the cell phone number, type of equipment, quantity, date of return, FEDEX tracking number and the user contact information (name, phone #, and email address).

- Exchange Equipment
- This information applies if you want to exchange wireless equipment. It is a 2-step process:
- If you have purchased wireless equipment and wish to exchange the equipment with Verizon Wireless. You may return it within 30 days in original packaging and accompanied by an original receipt. There is a return authorization slip via FEDEX included in your shipment. Please retain the tracking number for your records.
- You also must notify UIS-Telecommunications (uis_wireless_phones@harvard.edu) via email that you've returned equipment to Verizon Wireless. Your email should include the cell phone number, name of equipment, quantity, date of return, FEDEX tracking number, and your contact information (name, phone # and email address). UIS-Telecommunications needs this information to cease billing your department or school, and to make certain that a credit is issued from Verizon Wireless.
- Switching from Verizon Wireless Corporate Plan to Verizon Wireless Employee Plan
- If you wish to convert your Verizon Wireless corporate wireless plan to a Verizon Wireless employee plan, you will need to contact Brad Brass (Verizon Wireless) at 617.823.7610 or send an email to bradley.bass@verizonwireless.com.
Brad will then provide you with forms and instructions.
Note: Once your cell phone has been transferred from corporate to personal plan, please notify UIS-Telecom at
uis_wireless_phones@harvard.edu as we will need to cease billing your department.
