Wireless Information Including Health Concerns
Commonly asked wireless phone

FDA / FCC wireless phone consumer
facts
Check the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) of your phone
Information on SAR for a specific phone model can be obtained for many recently
manufactured phones using the FCC identification (ID) number for that model. The
FCC ID number is usually printed somewhere on the case of the phone. Sometimes
it may be necessary to remove the battery pack to find the number.
Once you have the ID number, go to the following Web address:
www.fcc.gov/oet/fccid.
On this page, you will see instructions for entering the FCC ID number. Type the
FCC ID number exactly as requested (the Grantee Code is the first three characters,
the Equipment Product Code is the rest of the FCC ID number, for example the FCC
number found on phone is AZ489FT5808 = Grantee Code: AZ4, Equipment Product Code: 89FT5808 )
Then click on "Start Search." The "Grant of Equipment Authorization" for your
telephone should appear. Read through the grant for the section on "SAR Compliance,"
"Certification of Compliance with FCC Rules for RF Exposure" or similar language.
This section should contain the value(s) for typical or maximum SAR for your phone.
Safety First
Recently a lot of attention has been focused on wireless phone
use while driving. Remember, safe driving is your first priority
when using a wireless phone in your vehicle. Here are a few
recommendations that can help you drive responsibly and call
with care:
- Be
sure you are familiar with your phone's features before
using it while driving.
- Use
a hands-free headset or vehicle kit so both hands can remain
on the steering wheel. A hands-free headset is strongly
recommended.
- Pre-program
important and frequently call numbers so you can make calls
using speed dialing or voice-activated dialing.
- Do
not dial, search for numbers or take notes while your car
is moving or in traffic. Pull over to a safe area when using
your phone.
- Let
voice mail pick up your calls or use call forwarding to
forward your wireless phone to your office phone while driving.
- Do
not engage in stressful or emotional conversations that
can distract you.
- Know
your wireless phone number, so emergency personnel can call
you back.
