Welcome to the Directory Services' website.

Our product team supports Harvard University’s central identity management system (IDM). Data about Harvard community members and affiliates are aggregated from source systems of record into a central identity data repository. Data are shared with Harvard internal customers in various ways including LDAP, XML-based exports, and web services.

Some Directory Services We Provide

PIN Authentication Services:
Harvard technical teams interested in using Harvard University PIN system for user authentication can find technical information at pin.harvard.edu. Navigate to Developer Resources.
Authorization Proxy:
This extension to the PIN system incorporates status checking of authenticated users to enable policy-based authorization. Other credentials that have been incorporated to work with the PIN system via the Authorization Proxy include Harvard Medical School’s eCommons ID, the Harvard Alumni Association’s post.harvard logins for alumni, and XID.
Data Services: MIDAS Application:
MIDAS is our primary application for working with data in the ID system. It allows look-up of people to verify affiliation, update of contact or privacy data, and creation of Id numbers for library borrowers or other persons with roles like consultant or contractor. Please select “MIDAS” from the menu to learn more.
