Database Administration

The SOC database administrators (DBAs) provide technical support for Oracle / SQL Server and Sybase Database Management Systems (DBMS), web servers (IIS/Apache), enterprise wide applications (Oracle Financial Applications, Peoplesoft Payroll & HR, Library Systems, Grants Management Applications Suite (GMAS), Common Alumni Affairs Development System (CAADs), and application servers (WebLogic/Tuxedo/9iAs).

Specifically, SOC DBA functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Initial database installation and configuration
  • Database upgrades
  • Ongoing database patching and maintenance
  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Instance management
  • Production code release and change control
  • Application server management
  • Back-up and restoration
  • Technical and database architecture
