Managed Storage Service
Harvard University Information Systems Network & Server Systems provides
enterprise class managed storage service to mission critical applications. This
service is based on a two-tiered storage model consisting of Tier I storage residing
on an EMC Symmetrix SAN infrastructure and Tier II storage residing on an EMC CLARiiON
infrastructure. Tier I targets applications requiring high-level performance,
availability and fault-tolerance. Tier II targets applications having flexible
availability requirements. Host operating systems supported include Sun Solaris,
IBM AIX, HPUX, Windows 2000/2003 and Linux.
Connectivity to the storage service is achieved through fiber channel host bus adapters
to the SAN switch fabric and via CIFS or NFS through an EMC Celerra Network Attached Storage
device. The storage service is supported by a comprehensive suite of management tools including
EMC Control Center, StorageScope, Navisphere, and Workload Analyzer providing storage allocation,
snapshot, performance measurement, and tuning.
