Useful Information For New Staff and Existing Staff

Paycheck information

The first few weeks on the job can be confusing as you adjust to your new workplace. Your manager and UIS Human Resources will work together to ensure that you have everything you need to get started.

Harvard's payroll cycle is bi-weekly, with payday being every other Friday. If you have chosen to participate in Direct Deposit, which is strongly encouraged, you will not receive a pay stub but rather view it online via PeopleSoft, Harvard's Payroll system. If you have not chosen to sign up for Direct Deposit your check will be mailed to your office. Payment is in arrears, meaning you are paid for work already completed during the prior two weeks of a pay cycle.

Non-exempt employees are overtime-eligible and are paid based on the number of hours worked. If you are an overtime-eligible employee you are required to report your hours weekly, via PeopleSoft, indicating the number of hours you have worked per day. Training is required for new non-exempt staff. George Ducharme will contact you within your first week to schedule this training.

Commuting Information

Members of the Harvard Community that drive to the Cambridge Campus each day should contact Parking Services to download a 2007/2008 Faculty & Staff Application.

Public transportation in the Greater Boston area is efficient, and Harvard offers significant discounts on MBTA passes. Please visit the Commuter Choice website for more information and to sign up for the program.

For commutes from across the river, shuttles between Harvard Square and the Longwood Medical Area are convenient and free to those holding an HUID. Visit the MASCO website for more information.
