Focusing on OAS’s, Procurement Practice group
Front Row - Nan Liang, Elaine Fortin
Back Row - Joe Rickert, Peter Drahos, Rick Mulroy, Mary O'Brien
The OAS Procurement Practice implements, builds and supports applications that enable schools across Harvard University
to process their invoice, employee reimbursement, purchase order and PCARD transactions. In addition, the team supports the
Escheat, 1099 and 1042S - Non Resident Alien tax reporting to the government.
Collectively, the team of 5 developers and one manager has a wide range of skills and works with FAD Systems Solutions
and the Procurement Business Units to build solutions that meet the growing procurement needs of the community. This is
accomplished by either enhancing Oracle products like Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and iProcurement or by modifying Custom
Applications such as Web Voucher, Web Reimbursement, and PCARD.
Currently, in addition to supporting the University Security Initiative, the team is working on an HCOM pilot and a FedEx
Application. HCOM - Harvard Crimson Online Marketplace is an online marketplace that integrates with a third party
application (SciQuest) that hosts over 200 Harvard vendor catalogs and/or punch out sites. Once a user completes their
shopping, the shopping cart is integrated back into Oracle and routed for approval. Once approved, an electronic purchase
order is sent through Sciquest and delivered to the vendor. The FedEx application is a custom J2EE application that
integrates with FedEx using their web services tool kit. This application will allow users to generate quotes and shipping
labels for express mail transactions as well as track and cancel a shipment on line. Once the rate quote and label has been
generated, the user will complete the coding and an approved transaction will be created. Phase 2 of this project is
expected to incorporate electronic invoicing for those transactions generated through the application. Phase 1 of this
application is expected to go live in October 2008.

things," suggests Stefan Cover, curatorial assistant in the Entomology Department in Harvard's Museum of Comparative
Zoology. "Instead of fixing the system, we find ourselves justifying these inanities by using the system's own wacky
internal logic."

Harvard wins "Commuter Challenge"
The CommuterChoice Program would like to thank participants of this year's Bike Week. Harvard won the Commuter Challenge as the Bay State's large academic institution with the most miles cycled; In addition, Bay State Bike Week shattered its original 50,000 mile goal, with participants biking a total of 132,598 miles. That is 9,800 fewer car rides, 55.44 metric tons of carbon dioxide saved and 6,314 gallons of gas not used. Continue to save gas by signing up for a Zipcar account, at only $25 a year for Harvard affiliates and $7 per hour for all Prius vehicles in the Boston/Cambridge area. Visit the CommuterChoice website for details.
