Project ICE!
Benefits of Outlook / Exchange
This change will have an impact on you both personally and how your office or workgroup may conduct business. Some of the features and benefits you can expect to see when we have moved to the new service are:
- You will see an identical view of your mail, calendar and folders from multiple machines (home/office/traveling)
- Ability to use a Web Browser and Outlook Web Access to view your mail and calendar information from home or when traveling
- Easy local synchronization of Calendaring and Mail from a variety of approved PDA’s and wireless devices
- Calendaring and Scheduling will be available to all users – you will have the ability to easily schedule meetings with everyone on the new system
- All Harvard users currently in the LDAP directory will be displayed in the Exchange Directory for easy lookup
- Secured Access from all clients, even from a Web client
- Efficient use of low-bandwidth connections
- More robust, feature- rich native and web-client with many self-service tools
- A more scalable system that can grow as University needs evolve
- A platform with rich capabilities to integrate future services and technologies such as unified messaging, VoIP and Wireless
However, it is important that people understand the need to more closely manage their mailboxes by deleting messages no longer needed and archiving messages locally for future use. This effort is required to maintain mailbox quotas.
Security Awareness is of Paramount Importance
- Need for everyone to maintain a high-level of vigilance on security matters
- We will have firewalls in place to help keep systems secure
- Newer anti-virus software will help block attacks – everyone will need to move to latest version of software and keep definitions up-to-date
