Radcliffe Provided Computer
As a part of your fellowship term, a Radcliffe-owned, networked Macintosh or Windows desktop computer is provided in your Fellowship office installed with a Standard Software Suite and connected to a network printer located in common areas. Additional software may be installed according to the specification of the online survey each Fellow received in May.
Fellows using specialized software outside of the Standard Software Suite are primarily responsible for their own support and training for those applications. DLS will make a best effort attempt to help with any issues that may arise, but cannot be held responsible for training or resolution of non-standard software. Additional software can be requested via the Help Desk at 617.495.8411 or dls@harvard.edu.
Email and files stored on your local C drive of your Radcliffe computer are not backed up. Fellows are encouraged to store important data on the network drives (G: and U: drives) which are backed up nightly. Network drive backups remain on-site for 14 days and Off-site for 60 days.
DLS will support and maintain Radcliffe’s computing equipment throughout the year. All computers are protected from viruses by Symantec Anti-Virus and remotely receive operating system security patches
IT Security
DLS abides by all University Security Policies – http://www.security.harvard.edu/
If you are planning on bringing a personally owned laptop (or owned by your home institute) for use in your office, it will need to be certified by DLS upon check-in, that it is virus free and up to date with security patches. Non-Radcliffe owned computers will only be allowed on the wireless network after certification and will not be allowed to connect to the Radcliffe Fileserver and must utilize webmail for email connectivity icemail.harvard.edu. Wireless printing is available within Byerly Hall. DLS will not be responsible for any support of this equipment throughout the fellowship year. Alternative support information will be included in info packets for your convenience.
DLS does not endorse, support or install any Peer-to-Peer software such as BitTorrent, Skype, Limewire, etc., on the basis that these types of applications effectively circumvent most enterprise security architectures in the same way that a virus or exploit does.

Off-Campus Internet Connectivity
Radcliffe fellows needing a connection to the Internet from their Boston/Cambridge-area homes are responsible for establishing their own Internet connections. Fellows may do this by keeping their current Internet Service Provider (ISP) or by making arrangements with a local ISP when they arrive.
If you keep your current ISP, be sure to obtain from them a Boston/Cambridge-area phone number or a toll-free number so that you will not pay long distance charges while connected. Radcliffe does not endorse any particular ISP, though we provide suggestions for what to keep in mind when shopping for an ISP.
Note: Radcliffe neither pays for Radcliffe fellows' ISP service nor installs or configures the software to connect to the ISP.
